Sub for Santa is now closed until December
Thank you for your interest in Sub for Santa! We're pleased to say that all our families were matched this year, and we are no longer taking applicants to give help or get help. We usually start accepting applications to receive assistance in November and start matching sponsors with families in late November. Check back on this page closer to Christmas for specific dates.
Help a Family
Sub for Santa is a local Christmas charity that provides gifts for children, elderly, and disabled in the Utah County area. Sub for Santa has partnered with United Way of Utah County for over 35 years. Last year over 5,100 children in 1,400 families were served by generous community sponsors through Sub for Santa.
Please consider making a financial contribution to help families next year.
Before you register as a sponsor, please read the following information.
1. Who do sponsors help?
Sponsors help local children 0-18 years of age. Parents attend an application open house where they are taught about community resources and no-cost holiday traditions. ID for the parents and children and other documents are verified. A committee evaluates each application according to their financial situation, how many years a family has received assistance, and other circumstances.
2. What does a sponsor provide?
Please note a few changes in gift requests. Sponsors provide 2-3 new items of clothing, 2 new toys, and 3-5 books for each child. The average sponsor spends $100 per child.
3. What kind of information does Sub for Santa provide about the children to the sponsor?
Contact information, address, names, gift ideas, and sizes are provided. Click here for an example of a Family Information Sheet you will receive once your assignment is made.
4. Who delivers the gifts?
YOU do! We do our best to match you with a family or families that live close to you. However, please keep in mind the majority of families that apply live south of Orem.
Approximately 30% live south of Springville in communities like Spanish Fork, Payson, Santaquin, etc.
Around 50% live in the Provo/Orem area.
Approximately 20% live in towns like Eagle Mountain, American Fork, Lehi, and Pleasant Grove.
5. Who calls the family I’m going to sponsor? Who asks further questions and makes delivery arrangements?
YOU do! Please call the family as soon as you receive their information and let them know you are their sponsor and work out a delivery date and time that works for the both of you.
6. When will names be available?
Beginning in mid-November. Families apply for help in November through mid-December. Please request names closest to the date you actually need them. (For example, please don’t request names for Nov. 15 if you don’t plan to contact the family or shop for them until Dec. 10. This will cut down on reminder phone calls and e-mails from Sub for Santa).
7. When should gifts be delivered by?
Before Christmas--deliver gifts at a time that works for you and the family you are sponsoring.
