VITA

This program means so much to me. Taxes are never easy, and you all do this so well and with such compassion. Thank you. -VITA client

What is VITA?

Each year, volunteers help local families prepare their tax returns for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Thanks to their efforts, over 5 million dollars is brought back to struggling Utah County households each year. Additionally, providing free tax help allows families to save an average of $300 they would have spent on paid tax preparation.

Half of all VITA clients make $15,000 or less annually. This means that for many of our clients, their tax refunds are the largest lump-sum payment they will receive all year. Families use this essential income to pay rent, utilities, student loans, transportation costs, and many other necessary household expenses.

Thanks to VITA volunteers, these families are able to move forward on the path toward financial stability and self-sufficiency.

How to Participate in Virtual VITA

How can I volunteer?

No financial experience is necessary to become a VITA volunteer. All training is provided by United Way of Utah County.

In January, classes will be taught by a Tax Professional who will help you pass the open-book and open-note VITA test. There are also online training options available.

Email  for more information.

For every hour of service in the VITA program, volunteers bring an average of $1,500 back into the community through tax returns they help file.
English and Spanish speaking volunteers are needed at VITA sites throughout Utah County during the months of January through April.
What volunteers say: "It's a great feeling to be able to say, 'Don't worry--this one's on us' and know it's truly making a difference in someone's life."
