“Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.” --Emilie Buchwald

Did you know that the first five years of life are a significant part of a child’s language and literacy development? Even from birth, children are learning to distinguish sounds and meaning. But many children in our community are struggling to build the skills they need to be ready to learn before they begin school.

To help empower parents and other trusted adults in our community with the skills they need to prepare their children for learning, we need your support! By donating to the Read Early, Read Often project you will help us make sure families have access to the education and resources they need to prepare their children to learn. These resources include information about how speaking, singing, and playing with your children build language skills. These resources also include high-quality books parents can read together with their children.

By donating, you will also help strengthen relationships between parents and children in our community. Talking, singing, playing, and reading together are not just simple ways to help emergent readers, but they also help families build bonds together. As parent educator Pam Leo has said, “[Babies] begin to associate books with being held, with being loved, with having attention. Right from the very beginning they love books because it is love to them.”

Thank you for supporting our children and their families!
